About the Conference

The First Metabolostasis Conference brought together leading international researchers to explore the emerging field of metabolostasis - the mechanisms that regulate metabolite homeostasis and maintain the delicate balance required for healthy cellular function.

The conference focused on recent discoveries revealing that metabolites, while essential for life, can also form toxic aggregates associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Participants discussed the biological, evolutionary, and medical implications of these findings, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue across chemistry, biology, medicine, and computational sciences.

Scientific Background

Metabolism is the complex network of reactions that enables organisms to generate the energy and molecular building blocks required for life. Although metabolites are essential for cellular function, recent research has shown that they may also form cytotoxic aggregates under certain conditions.

These discoveries have led to the concept of metabolostasis - the quality-control mechanisms that maintain metabolites in a soluble, non-aggregative state while ensuring their continuous availability. Understanding these mechanisms offers new insights into fundamental biology, evolution, and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
